Christmas time for Ava!

Christmas went as fast as it came this year!
I was totally ready for Christmas. I did most of my shopping and wrapping on Black Friday this year. On Black Monday (the Monday following black Friday) I got some great cyber Monday deals! I got two phones, one for Phil and one for me! The total came to $789 dollars minus $788.98. I paid a total of $.02 cents for the phones plus shipping. I got some killer deals on toys for Ava on black Friday.
So the week before Christmas everything turned crazy. I wasn't feeling the urge to push my students on the buses that send them home, I was actually kind of disappointed that they were going home. Then my mom ended up in the hospital. I wasn't in the mood for the semi annual pot luck. We had half days at work the first week the students were gone. I spent some of the time traveling to the hospital, freaking out about Ava because her nanny took the week off. Luckily I have some of the best co-workers in the world!!!! Roni, took my little Ava and she and her kids had fun hanging out with Ava.
Friday came and my dad, Ava and I woke up early to do some extra last minute Christmas shopping. I finished up Ava's Christmas shopping getting her a car seat for Phil's car and lots of snacks then a thermometer that you just swipe across the forehead and it reads your temperature.
Ava and I went home, Ava needed a nap and I got some laundry and house work done.
In the afternoon Ava and I went to the Christmas Eve service at church. My mom came home from the hospital during that time and then after Phil got home we went over to my parents house, then went back to Target for some REAL last minute shopping.
Christmas Day was interesting. Ava loved ALL of her toys!

She got:
A bouncy turtle (it seriously looks like something that came out of Mario brothers)
Mini play kitchen
Mini sports station complete with bat, balls, and hoop
Play gum ball machine
Clothes-outfits and shoe socks
Shoes
Tent

She had such a blast! She didn't even like the boxes! She liked the actual toys! I was super impressed! She loves her toys and she knows how to use them.
After we opened presents we went over to Denny's because they cook breakfast and I don't! :) We had a nice family breakfast.
After breakfast we went to see my parents. We visited for a while and had our family picture taken.

Phil went over to his mom's house and I stayed at home while Ava napped. I started not feeling super great. At 4:15 I headed over to Phil's mom's house. It was fun. We got to see Billie, Steve, Luka, Juno and the rest of the gang. It was fun.
We've had a fun weekend as a family. We really got to enjoy some time with Ava. It has been nice.

Meeting Santa, Again

On Saturday, we had such a busy day!
Ava and I got up early. We went to the Santa Breakfast at the Lodge. Boy, Ava was everywhere!!! She ran out the door (almost to the parking lot) at least 5 times if not more. Our friend Cheryl came with her baby Addison. Ava and Addison had a blast playing together!

We ate breakfast, then headed into the meeting room where the girls were able to meet Santa and run around! And boy did Ava run. EVERYWHERE!

In front of people taking pictures, out the door, up the stairs, around the big kids, hugging the moving bears that were just as big as she was.

Finally Ava got to meet Santa. She did pretty good. She didn't really want to sit on Santa's lap. She didn't cry though. She just reached her arms out to me. Not sure if it was the beard or what, but she is not Santa's number 1 fan.

After meeting Santa we had a church sing to go to. Which was really convenient, it was basically the next building over! We made it just on time. I was able to put Ava in the child care so she would be tempted to run ALL over the church or attempt to get on stage, which seems to be the place she wants to be the most.
It was a great Christmas program. The singing was great. I love music!
I also ran into my math teacher from Principia; Ms. Korp. It was great to see her again!

After the Christmas program, my Aunt, from out of town, and I spent the entire afternoon together! It was so much fun! I enjoyed the time together with her. I feel so inspired after speaking with her. It was a great afternoon.
Then Ava and I visited with my mom while my Aunt and my dad went shopping. They came back and they made dinner. We had rack of lamb, asparagus, baked potato and cheesecake! YUM! What a dinner!
It was a great day.

Emergency Stop At The Doctors

On Tuesday night I came home to a pretty happy Ava. I fixed her dinner and then we played. As we were playing with Ava's big puzzle, Ava's nose began to run. Ava is not one to get sick so I just thought that it was part of teething. So we went about our business and I gave her a bath and put her to bed around 7:30pm. Around 9:15pm Ava woke up screaming. I went to get her from her crib and her face was swollen like a ball and her cheeks were red as a tomato! It was so scary! I had to wait until almost 10pm to give her Tylenol.
Once I gave her Tylenol, we went into our bedroom and I put her in the pac'n'play and we watched two Disney movies. Ava would not sleep. She wanted to be on the bed and she would be perfectly fine then she would be unhappy. So finally around Midnight I put her upstairs and eventually she fell asleep. She did not wake up until 9:30am. Nanny K called and said that Ava woke up screaming, soaking wet and her face was swollen. She gave her Tylenol and she was a new little girl.
I was a little concerned about the swelling so I called the nurse. Our doctor called back and said that he could see Ava in the afternoon.
I met Nanny K at the doctors office.
Ava was running all over the office, not acting sick at all, of course. She was running all over, waving and blowing kisses and bringing me books saying "Thank you".
Finally we were called back. I told the nurse she woke up soaking wet, her face was swollen, but the swelling went down with Tylenol. So I undressed Ava getting her ready for her weigh in and I took off her diaper. There was a huge rash all over her hoo hoo area! Poor baby! I told the nurse I had never seen that before. It made me sad that not only was Ava in pain from her face swelling but now she had a rash in her diapered area.
We went to weigh Ava. Ava weighed in at 17 lbs 13 oz. Still small. Oh well.
Ava had a fever of 101. Her heart rate was a little fast, but they said that was probably from the fever.
The doctor came in and said her ears looked fine, her color was ok, and she didn't have much swelling anymore. Then he looked in her mouth, and he confirmed my worst fear. Ava is getting all 5 teeth at once! 5 teeth! Thats just crazy.
Then I mentioned the rash. The doctor looked at it and said it was a yeast infection.
Poor Ava. Not only teething but a yeast infection too.
She has been feeling better today. Poor little girl.

Amazing!

Sundays for me are always a day to reflect.
Ava and I start out the morning usually by watching a movie, followed by getting ready then heading to the 8:30 service at church (yes, our days usually start at 5am).
I am so grateful for all that has happened lately. I am thankful for Phil and for Ava, and my parents and our friends. I am thankful that our friends who we haven't seen much of lately, we are starting to have more contact with again! I am grateful to have found a wonderful nanny for Ava, found a carpool buddy for myself for work, to have great friends, that Phil has found more part time work and that we seem to be working better as a family to get the t-shirt business out there, or at this point, running while the crazy hours occur for Phil's part time work. I'm grateful that Phil is starting to feel a little better.
And I'm thankful for God coming into our lives when he did. I don't know how I would have gotten through this year without faith, love and hope.

100 posts!

This is my 100th post since finding out I was pregnant with Ava!
Ava is such an amazing little girl!
She plays with us. She plays ball, she now gets the hang of the game chase, and she now pays train (I put my hands out behind me, she grabs onto my thumbs and we run around the house like a choo choo train. We are wild and run crazy). Ava has a million kilivolts of energy! I have no idea where she gets all this energy!
This week her little personality is developing!
She likes to give "knuckles", "high fives" and what we like to call "cool dude" which is basically a thumbs up!
She says so many things now I'm not sure where to start!
She does say one naughty word.
She does say "Oh shit". Now we aren't sure if she says "Oh shit" or if its "Oh sit". She says this phrase when she jumps up and lands on her bum (because the entire world is a bounce house)!
We ask Ava, "Do you want more". She answers "Mo" then signs more.
I ask Ava; "Ava, can I have kisses" she comes over to me and sticks her lips out and plants a big kiss on my lips.
Its the cutest thing ever!
I ask Ava, "Ava, can I get Ava snuggles?" and she will lay her head on my shoulder.
Other words she says are:
"Nana" for banana
"Blank" for her blanket
"Oh no" is still her favorite word
"Uh oh" has taken a step back but she still says those two phrases quite a lot

Another conversation we will have goes a little like this:
"Ava, do you want to go night night?"
"Ni"
"Ava, do you want your bottle"
"Ba Ba"
That entire conversation will take place and if she says "no" to those questions we know she is not ready for bed.

This whole new level of communication is just extrodinary! Its amazing at how much we can get accomplished with communication instead of tantruming.

Well I hope that I will be able to blog and update again before the weekend is over. I hope to get a family picture in this weekend too! If I get pictures I will post them!
Thanks for reading!

Ava's words

Ava has now updated her vocabulary!
She says:
"Nuno" = Juno
"Oooka" = Luka
"Ooome" = Home
"Nacks" = Snacks
"Please" and she signs please too
"Thank you"
"There we go"
"Juice"
"Baby"
"Ball"
"Ni-night"

She also tries her very best to repeat everything we say. She is trying hard. I commend her on her verbal skills! I think she is able to avoid most temper tantrums because she is able to communicate what she wants. Even when she gets mad, we can distract her or she can tell us in a round about kind of way, why she is mad.
She is amazing! We are so proud of her!

PS This is a not to self; DO NOT GO BLACK FRIDAY SHOPPING EVER AGAIN.

Changes

There have been so many changes in the past year and a half. Mostly on my behalf.
I had a baby. I was huge. I was emotional and tired and drained. Then after several weeks of being able to bond affectionately with my baby, I was pushed back into the work world which, under normal cercumstances would have been no problem. But I had post partum and didn't know it. I felt over whelmed and everyday felt like a struggle. Just as I was catching up on one thing I was now five tasks behind. My life was one big catch up game. It seemed to take me hours to get to and from work. I don't know if I just felt the safe comfort of my parents house and sought out solitude and extra help while picking up Ava or an excuse not to go home so I wouldn't have to be "alone" with Ava while Phil was working. I didn't know what I was doing.
After being diagnoses with post partum everything seemed to make sense. I understood myself a little better. I now understood why the awful thoughts kept coming. I sought help on several different levels.
Since my diagnosis my life has completely changed.
In February I started going to Church.
It took several weeks and several times but I decided to dedicate my life to God. Which in turn led to my participation in the church and my decision to allow Ava to be dedicated in the church on Mothers Day.
Since that day. I realized this isn't my life. This life is for me and Ava and Phil. Our lives are supposed to be together. No matter how many challenges we face along the way, how many obsticles that occure. We are supposed to hang tight as a family.
This summer several of our challenges arose but I still enjoyed all the time I could with my baby. We went on morning weekend adventures. Mostly to take pictures of our little princess. We snuck in a camping trip, some fun hang out dates with friends and even snuck off to the Rib Cook Off with Cheryl and Addison. My time was spent learning the ways of the Beck which was totally awesome! I enjoyed every minute of it.
This fall my life has changed. Its become so completely different.I feel like a differently person entirely. My post partum depression has subsided. I no longer feel like a hamster in a wheel. Every weekend I enjoy activities with my daughter and husband. Our house is clean. I mean clean, clean. I get up early. I go to bed an hour after Ava. I feel like I have some control over my life again. I feel happiness, joy, and I feel inspired. I love being a mom. I love being a wife. I like my job. I am thankful that I am employed.
I think our lives have changed a lot. I feel more grateful for everything in my life. Every little ounce of happiness is just one more spark that keeps me going in my day! I love it! I live off it.

Awesome weekend!

The Wozniaks had a great weekend! Finally!
We had such a great weekend I don't know where to start!
Saturday we woke up to snow, since Ava and I are the first to get up, we like to let daddy sleep in. We usually go on a trip to Starbucks (mommy's addiction), and I took the good camera just in case. So after a nice cup of Hot Chocolate, Ava and I ventured off to Wingfield Springs, to the ball park. That is where all of her monthly pictures are taken. There was some snow there. So I thought it would be fun to take some quick pictures and get back in the car. It was cold!!

Well Ava took a liking to the snow!! In fact, she liked it so much, she enjoyed the crunching under her feet she walked across an entire grassy area! She had fun walking around in the crunchy snow, then walking all over. She loves exploring and being outside. So after about 15 minutes I thought it would be best if we headed back to the car. Ava's poor hands were a little cold. Then she got the bright idea to touch some plants that had snow on them. So we really had to go back to the car. The burning sensation was starting to set in her hands.
We got in the car and headed home.

Phil got up, we decided to go to breakfast. The breakfast place we wanted to go to, was PACKED, so we drove across the street to McDonalds. We got it to go, then I parked in the parking lot. And at the request of Phil. I turned Ava's carseat around. She thought it was awesome! She would say "WHOA" when we stopped. It was funny!

Then we decided to take Ava on another small family adventure. We went to Lakeside drive and to The Look Out.

Phil showed Ava the pretty sights of the city, and we let Ava run around for a minute. She liked walking around and being outside.
We went to the mall and then we went home.
We set up the Christmas tree and then at 4:30 Ava and I left to go to the Christmas Tree Lighting with Cheryl, Dave and Addison and Jackie and Spud. We had a great time!

We got the girls pictures taken with Santa at Scheels, then we walked around Scheels until the lighting of the Christmas tree. It was so neat! What a fun night!

This morning Ava and I went to church and then we saw Grandma and Grandpa for a bit and spent the rest of the day at home! Its been a great day! the house is almost ready for Thanksgiving.

The many SIGNS of Ava!

Ava signs!!!!
She can sign "Food" "More" "Please" we are even working on "coloring" which I made up by pulling her index finger across the palm of her hand.
Wave bye bye and blow kisses.
She is beginning to say quite a few words.
"Dog"
"Cat"
"Two"
"Mama"
"Dada"
"Mo" for more
"Oh cute"
"Oh wow"
"Oh no"
"Uh oh"
"Oh whoa"
"This"
"Yes"
"Ba ba" for bottle
"Whoa"
"Ni Nite"
"Hello"
"Hi"
"No"

Ava is amazing! She is doing amazing! She is such an amazing little person. I love spending all the time I can with her! She is so funny, and so full of energy. One of her favorite things to do is listen to the radio then play Ava pin ball. She spins around and around and around and then bounces into the couch, then falls down and tries to do it all over again.
Last night Ava attempted jumping.
Tonight, she accomplished this jumping task! She jumped up in the air then landed on her butt with her legs straight out. LOL It looks like she was at a bounce house, but the bounce house was missing!
Ava is really good about entertaining herself. She's so freakin awesome!

This week when I came home from work I found my two lovies working on hobbies together! How awesome is that?!

Carving. Pumpkins.

Two weeks ago Nanny Kajsa and Ava went to the local pumpkin patch to pick out a pumpkin. They found a good one!
As the weeks came and went, the pumpkin kept sitting. So today, Ava and I decided to carve the pumpkin!

I have never carved a pumpkin by myself. I didn't know where to start! But I started out. I cut a leaf shape on the pumpkin's head, once that was cut, I began scooping out the insides! Ava helped and munched on some pumpkin while she watched. She thought it was fun to play with.

After scooping out all the stuff inside. I separated pumpkin from seeds and I began the pumpkin seed baking process!

I started with the eyes. I had no idea what I was doing, where I was going...and did not trace anything while cutting out the pumpkin.
And what do you know. It turned out to be a cat!

Maybe it was a sign. Because Ava got up from her nap, was roaming around and found out cat and went up to it and said "Kitty!".
She is saying a lot of new words lately!
"Kisses"
"Kitty" (not just KIKI)
"Ball" (not BA)
"Baby"

We had a lot of fun carving our pumpkin today and we had fun on our dress up play date at MMMM Yogurt with Cheryl and Addison yesterday!

15 Month Appointment

Today was Ava's 15 month appointment!
She decided to greet everyone in the waiting room. She talked to kids who were a little older than her. She decided it was fun to run around the chairs and put her sippy cup on the table and off the table.
Finally, after what seemed like forever, we went back to our room. I undressed Ava. We went out to the scale to weigh Ava. She weighs a whole......17 lbs and 4 oz. Which is REALLY small for her size, BUT she is still going strong on her own growth curve. So I'm really excited that she's still gaining weight. She is 19 inches long. She's actually on the growth chart for her length!!! WAHOO! She is at 3%.
The doctor said she is doing really well. The only thing we have to change is her diet a little bit. He wants her to eat more pure and less processed. Which means...she isn't going to get snack on her hot dogs (Turkey dogs) as often as she is used to.

She is vocal and is developing good vocal skills. She is also doing well with walking and those other developments.
It was a good appointment.
Ava got 2 shots (she'll have to go back for her third). She only screamed for about 5seconds and then she was fine. She does really well with her shots. And since it seems that she might be allergic to eggs she has to stay away from the flu shot.
She had a good appointment.
Thanks to my mom for letting me borrow her car! I had to take Ava's car seat out because she threw up all over it and I threw the cover in the washer. So my mom let me borrow her car since she has a car seat set up for Ava in her car.

House Wife At Heart

Over the last year I can't explain the changes in my life that occurred!
Finding out I had Post Partum to being introduced to this totally amazing person who became my good friend and then was willing to watch Ava for a few days a week for a couple of months! My life has been a complete 180!
Everyone who knows me, pretty much knows that I keep a decent house. Decent, not perfect but decent. Well that and laundry were about the extent of it!
Then when I started to pick Ava up my new found best friend, Beck would teach me the basics of cooking. She taught me that simple ingredients could be made into a wonderful delicious masterpiece!
My very first try on my own looked a little like this..

Its supposed to be cake
From there she taught me the art of fondant (a type of frosting used to mold cake).

We tested it out on Ava's practice cake. The same day she taught me how to make Heavenly Balls (aka. chocolate balls). Basically they are crushed up oreos, a stick of cream cheese with melted mini chocolate chips drizzled over it.
From simple desserts I've recently ventured out!

I started cooking. Really cooking. I next tried out her Chicken enchilada with green chili sauce which is oooh so amazing, even Phil likes it!
Next I opted for our family recipe of Pot roast. It turned out pretty well.
Then I ventured on to reading a recipe (Which is dangerous for me...I usually skip steps) and what do you know. I skipped a step! The recipe I tried was called Rocky Road Chocolate Cake (IN A CROCK POT).
My first attempt it was kind of mushy
My second attempt I learned from my first one and didn't miss the step, I missed another step. But then I put it in the refrigerator and it made all the difference in the world!
My third attempt a the crock pot cake was near perfection.

I have been creative with my meals. I make french toast, using the Joy of Cooking recipe. Unfortunately it slipped my mind that Ava is allergic to eggs so she got a bit of a rash after eating it. She sure enjoyed the cream cheese on the toast.

My next cooking adventure starts when we get our first DOOR STOP delivery for fresh produce! I am going to try Sweet Potato Soup. I can't wait!
On Thursday after Nanny Kajsa and Ava pull out the seeds from the pumpkin they picked out last week, I will bake them as a snack for the girls (well mostly Kajsa)for Thursday.
I love all this cooking stuff! Its creative and fun. And I never ever thought I would like cooking. When I saw how easy Beck made it look and how simple she made cooking seem she made it less intimidating! You are talking to the only person I've ever know to catch a crock pot on fire. And burn water. Who burns water?!
I thoroughly enjoy cooking. Its the only thing in my entire life that I don't mind the extra practice!
Thanks Beck!

All About Juno!

Sunday October 10th we had a chance to walk for the cure! We walked for the cure for Diabetes!
Our niece Juno was diagnosed with diabetes at the end of August this year, just before her 1st birthday.
This year a group of us walked together. Pirates of the Cure-a-bean! Billie and Steve did an amazing job of pulling together and getting people motivated to walk! They are amazing parents and they tell their amazing story. I have no idea how they do it but they are such positive uplifting people! They have been so truly honest and they are still such amazing people.

They have the best family. Billie and Steve are so strong then their two adorable little kids! They are the best!

There were a bunch of us who walked in the group. We were handed our pirate shirt and given pirate gear (including a bandanna for the hair, an eye patch.

It was totally awesome! The kids and belts and swards. They were geared up for the walk for the cure! Everyone did such a good job!

It was a wonderful way to spend a Sunday morning. The event couldn't have been more fun, for such a wonderful cause!

All About Ava

Ava is now 14 months!
Actually, now that I think about it, she is going to be 15 months pretty soon! Yikes!
Anyways. She has perfected her walk into toddler running!
If you have ready any of my previous blogs, you know our life has been quite a circus for the past month or so.
Ava has taken the change in stride. I can tell that everything has effected her. Some of major things that have changed in her life:
She no longer goes over to Beck's house. Which is really sad. She doesn't play with Ms T. Ms T and Mr Z very often anymore. But she still loves them and misses them terribly!
We stay at home A LOT more.
Except for work, going to my parents or the store, we don't go out.
I cook!
Like I said Ava has taken the change with stride. She has adjusted pretty well. She seems pretty happy for the most part. Phil and I are able to spend so much more time with her.
Everynight we have a sort of routine. Ava plays, or explores while I get dinner ready. We eat dinner together. We all play together for a few minutes. This week our game was "fetch". Yes...we played "fetch" with Ava. She almost has the idea of grabbing the ball when it comes to her, but it is basically a game of fetch the ball.

After our game. Ava and I sit down at her new little table and we are working on two skills. Sitting in chair (not standing) and not eating crayons and actually coloring with them.
So far..her success rate is about 40%. Next week we will aim for 60%. And we only work on this small task for about 10 minutes. Which is actually pretty good for a 1 year old.

After we get done coloring then we play a game of hide-and-seek/chase. Ava loves this game.
Once in a while I will sit on the floor and she thought of a fun game of sitting on mommy's lap. She will leave, then come back to sit on my lap some more. I actually like this, because this is one of the only times she is cuddly!!
Ava has been a little more cuddly lately.
Our lives have changed. A lot. And everyday we learn something new. Its almost kind of like dating all over again.
I can't explain it. Its hard to incorporate everything. Phil's condition. Making sure he eats every 2 hours. Ava is pretty easy to care for, just have to watch her so she doesn't eat things off the floor or climb on the tables.
Ava is totally amazing! I hope she continues to be amazing.

Short And Sweet

Ok...I wanted to say so much but I'm going to keep it short. And simple.

Phil is doing better. Most days he does pretty almost fantastic in fact! Other days, he stays in bed, waiting for the pain to go away.
Through all this. Phil has become an amazing person.
Every night I come home and cook dinner and we EAT TOGETHER AS A FAMILY. That statement should be the statement of the year. That is something we have not done, unless at a fast food place, for over 8 months. Our house is clean, its mostly picked up.
We now have a nanny, who this week spent three days at our house, and I think, though, he doesn't know it, has taught Phil a really big lesson. Responsibility. Phil has sent the nanny home EARLY two of the three days. EARLY! That means, Phil spends about 2 hours with Ava before I get home. This is miraculous! This is a huge step for him. He plays with her. He runs around with her. He chases her. They play ball and explore the toys in her play room.
This has meant so much to me. Its amazing, that's all I can say.

Since Phil has left the hospital, lots of things have changed. We have learned a lot. Life isn't always what we want it to be. But we make the best of times with what we have. Don't fret the small stuff, there are bigger fish to fry ahead.
God gave us a life, and we must live it. I love God and I rely on him everyday, every moment of everyday. He is what is keeping me going. He is what helps me get through my day.

There has been so much support and I am so grateful. We have had the best nanny a family could ever ask for. She has done so much for us without even knowing it. She has brought us closer with our daughter. We spend time with her. Ava is at home, in her own home, and she is comfortable, she loves it here and she loves us here. She loves seeing Phil working at home. I think it brings Ava a sense of joy. Ava has really bonded with her nanny. The door bell rings in the morning and Ava runs over to the door waving her tiny little hand. Then runs around screaming. LOL
Since we have had the nanny, I cook almost every night. I have stopped going on facebook while Ava is awake. I clean the house, our dishes aren't piled to the window...its a freakin' miracle!

Our lives are still changing and we are learning more about Phil's condition and how it affects not just him, but all of us. We are spending more time together as a family.

I couldn't be more proud of Phil for spending time with his daughter and eating dinner with the family. Its awesome! We love it!

Balloon Races

Every year my sister-in-law (Billie) and I have a tradition of going to the Great Reno Balloon Races every year. We started (we can't really remember) either the year before my nephew was born or the year he was born. Last year was the first time we didn't go together but with good reason! My sister in law had just given birth!
This year was great! We added another family to the mix and we had a big group watching the balloon races! We added the Markos and my friend Cheryl and her baby Addison came along too! It was nice. We had a good time.

This was Ava's second year going to the Balloon Races. I'm sure she couldn't see a thing last year! She was only 5 or 6 weeks old! This year she really enjoyed the Balloons! She kept saying "duh duh" for the balloons.
Ava also enjoyed playing with Billie's sister Dru. Ava also enjoyed the company of her other friends, Tasha, Thea and Addison!

It was a great time! I had no idea it would be such hard work with a little baby though! Getting all the stuff together. Before it was fun, we just packed up and went, but now there are other things to think about like the stroller and blankets and being warm enough! It was a lot of fun though and I can't wait for next years adventure!
